The World Curry Festival has been invited to take part in the expo by the Honourable Dato' Haji Abdul Malik Kassim, State Exco for Religious Affairs and Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs of Penang (Chairman of Halal Penang). The Minister originally met Mr. Zulfi Karim, Founder of the World Curry Festival, earlier this year, when they got together to discuss the idea of promoting Malaysian food.

Thus recently, an MOU was formalised in the UK last month, for the festival to be hosted in Penang in conjunction with PIHEC 2015. Through the MOU, Penang will become the first international destination outside of the UK for the World Curry Festival to go global.

The festival was originated in Bradford, the curry capital of UK for four years running. During the next PIHEC, local businesses and students from Bradford will be travelling to Penang to feature world-class culinary arts alongside local master chefs and curry houses to stage the first-ever World Curry Festival here in Penang - also regarded best as the food capital of Malaysia!
