Today’s ceremony marks yet another milestone in the development of Penang Halal Industry witnessing the Halal Malaysia Certification award to the Dimattina Coffee Beverage manufacturing in Melbourne Australia, having Penang as its distribution hub for Malaysia through KQY E-MarketPlace Sdn. Bhd. Dimattina Coffee began in the 1950s focusing on coffee roasting operations and has today expanded with a growing business worldwide.

The Halal Malaysia Certification is presented by The Honourable Dato Abdul Malik Kassim, State Minister for Religious Affairs, Domestic Trade & Consumer Affairs of Penang whom is also the Chairman of Halal Penang on behalf of the Penang Certification Board witnessed by the Right Honourable Mr Lim Guan Eng, Chief Minister of Penang.

Other dignitaries present  were Dato’ Hj. Sazali Hussein, Director of Penang State Religious Affairs Department together with Mr Faizal Ibrahim, the Deputy Director of Halal Management Division of Penang together with business dignitaries and officials form the Dimattina Coffee manufacturing.

Such award ceremony is in line with the State Government’s vision in realising Penang as a Global Halal Centre.

Since its inception in 2008, Halal Penang’s initiative through various outreach seminars conducted has resulted in tremendous rise in the number of local and international Halal certified establishments, leaping from 55 to 853 establishments as at end of year 2015; a record that proves to be more than 900% of increase. These establishments comprise f&b manufacturing, food eateries, cosmetics and pharmaceutical  production, hotels as well as abbatoir sectors.

This initiative comes after the Halal Malaysia certification by the Penang Certification Board were presented to Belgium’s Night Orient Sparkling Juice, Belvas Chocolate, PurEthnic Cosmetics and Progenus testing kit to identify for porcine substances from food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals;  Japan’s ISEA Inc’s health product (Slim Bifi), Eu Ki juices and Izumo drinking water product.

The certification award ceremony today clearly spells out that food and beverage sector branded with Halal Malaysia recognition not only attracts confidence among Muslims but also non Muslims worldwide, for the assurance of quality, hygiene and safety.

The event today serves as a significant step in potentially attracting more food products to obtain Halal Malaysia certification as value-added advantage to Penang’s food haven.
